'Heroes' (4.18) "The Wall" – Review

I'm starting to think the writers' room of Heroes must be a bunch of people sitting around, sticking up ideas and people on a wall, and then throwing darts blindfolded to see who is going to do what each week. While not "as" absurd as the craziness last week, this week's episode wasn't that much better, and once again they continue to pull deus ex machinas out of their ass left and right; I'd pay to see that magic show.

After taking Matt's power and touching Sylar, Peter is trapped inside Sylar's personal hell of being alone, which Matt created for him so he'd never harm anyone ever again. Peter eventually finds Sylar, and though it's only a matter of hours, in this "head" world the two spend years together trying to find a way out and break through an actual wall that has been setup to keep Sylar trapped. Meanwhile, at the carnival, Noah's past is put on display so that Claire can see what kind of man her father really is. Will she turn?

Is She Worth It?Is She Worth It?

It was bad enough that this year we found out suddenly that Noah was going to have an affair with his partner at one time, but now we find out that he was once married before, expecting a child, but a special killed her while he watched. This ultimately lead to Noah's first special killing, working for The Company, and then finding out he needed to "pick" a wife to ground him. So none of this has ever been hinted at before, but NOW the writers decide to pull this trump card out. I'm sure some people were blown away by the reveal, but I thought it was ridiculous and so heavy-handed. The only good news is that Claire didn't let these revelations keep her from loving her dad and siding with him.

Another poor story had to do with Peter and Sylar in their metaphysical realm struggling to get through a brick wall, which they only assumed would get them back into the real world. As they pounded on the bricks over and over, never making a dent, I kept wondering, "Why not try to just go over it?" It certainly seems that would've been easier. A wall separating the fake world from the real world was a little too "spot on" and obvious, so that was pretty corny. I also hated that, yes, it felt like years had passed between Sylar and Peter, so I'm sure he did repent and come to grips with his past, but it seems an easy "out" to get him to be a good guy so that he can save Emma. It's the equivalent of a training montage in a Rocky movie.

It was slightly better than last week's episode, but that isn't saying much. With only around two episodes left, I'm more wanting them to end to put me out of my misery rather than wanting to cherish every moment incase the show is cancelled. After this last handful of episodes since the show's return from hiatus, I'm starting not to care what happens either way.

Actually, this coming Monday's episode is the season finale. Good riddance. NBC, wake up and axe this show already. Jeez.
