'Caprica' (1.2) “Rebirth” – Review

This takes place after the bombing and the subsequent downloading of Zoe’s virtual self into a Cylon body. Joseph Adama still cannot reconcile himself to a virtual Tamara, but sees that he cannot go without her, so he tries to ask Greystone to see her again, but her matrix was lost when Greystone downloaded Zoe.

Zoe has re-established her relationship with Lacy, who is becoming friendly with one of her teachers at school. Clarice Willow is in a group marriage, which seems to be a bit unstable due to her actions. Greystone has no idea that his daughter is in the cylon, believing that her matrix was lost during transfer.

    The FathersThe Fathers

Amanda Greystone comes to the realization that her daughter was one of the terrorists that blew up the train, and admits it on live TV, much to her husband’s chagrin. They are hustled away by security, while Zoe watches the vid on a screen.

While I missed the first episode, the second episode did explain enough for me to keep up. I like the Zoe character, and I think I will enjoy her sojourn as a cylon. I’m just wondering when her father will find out. Amanda’s grief needs to be allayed as well.

Joseph Adama needs some closure, too. I have no idea what happened to Tamara, but hopefully Greystone can find her. Seeing little William before he became the leader of the last of the humans is interesting, especially considering his Uncle Sam is a crook.

I found the interplay between the assistants and the cylon was neat to watch, too. One assistant is fond of the machine, while one thinks it’s just a pile of nuts and bolts. It was interesting to see Zoe freak out in the back of the truck, and have Assistant 1 calm her before taking out her chip. The 2nd Assistant deserved to get his thumb chopped off.

It should be interesting to see how this storyline plays out. Plus, it was nice to see Vancouver as it is and not as some burnt out hole. The things I could tell you, but I won’t, because Vancouver is Caprica, and a very good Caprica it is.
