Brutal Legend
Eddie Riggs Hangs With Metalocalypse's Dethklok
Thu, 10/29/2009 - 10:18 — Jason Van Horn
Eddie Riggs - the star of Brutal Legend - is getting back into his roadie routine, but now he's got a real band to work by way of Dethklok. Watch the video and you tell me if it's awesome or the awesomest thing ever. No, I don't care if that's a real word or not, because that's how metal this video is.

'Brutal Legend' (Xbox 360) – Review
Thu, 10/22/2009 - 08:47 — Jason Van Horn
Brutal Legend is a game that's only as great as your love of the source material. If your musical library consists mostly of The Backstreet Boys and Madonna, this game is definitely not for you. Brutal Legend is a game for those people who want to "rock and roll all night and party every day." A game for those people who want to "run to the hills" and ring "hell's bells." A game for those people who know whom the hell Baba O'Riley and Mr. Crowley are.
'Brutal Legend' Lawsuit Settled
Fri, 08/07/2009 - 10:09 — Jason Van Horn
After hearing the news that Activision was suing in order to stop Brutal Legend from being released on time, did you start worrying that your Rocktober would be ruined? Well worry no more, as the lawsuit has been settled and the game will be releasing as previously listed. Officially the hearing has been canceled as an unspecified settlement has been reached between Activision and developer Double Fine.
Double Fine Files Countersuit Against Activision Over 'Brutal Legend'
Thu, 07/23/2009 - 09:04 — Jason Van Horn
After a sensational showing at E3 this year, Activision filed a lawsuit against Double Fine, trying to keep the game from being released this October. Instead of sounding like a solid case, it sounded more like sour grapes for passing on a great game; their mistake. Now Double Fine are filing a countersuit, alleging Activision is trying to kill the game completely - not just delay it - and it's because they fear the game competing with their upcoming Guitar Hero.
Tim Curry Joins 'Brutal Legend' Voice Cast
Tue, 06/16/2009 - 08:15 — Jason Van Horn
Brutal Legend announced some killer voice actors at E3 this year, including rock legend Ozzy Osbourne. Ronnie James Dio was also expected to be a part of the vocal cast, playing Doviculus, Emperor of the Tainted Coil. Dio has been dropped, however, and now Tim Curry will portray the voice. The current rumor is that because Dio is the current frontman of Black Sabbath, there's bad blood between him and Ozzy (who originated with Black Sabbath) and if push came to shove Ozzy is the bigger name.
"Ronnie James Dio is an amazing singer and truly one of the great figures of Metal,” Schafer said, “but as the character of Doviculus evolved, we realized that Tim Curry was a better fit for the part. Anyone who has seen his amazing performance as the Lord of Darkness in the movie Legend knows why we cast him in the role of Doviculus, Emperor of the Tainted Coil."
Tim Curry is probably best known for The Rocky Horror Picture Show and playing Pennywise in the miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's It.
Activision Suing Double Fine Over 'Brutal Legends'
Fri, 06/05/2009 - 08:44 — Jason Van Horn
In terms of news this morning ticking me off, this bit of info takes the cake. Activision, who weren't happy with Brutal Legends when they had the game and dropped it from their publishing list for just that reason, is now suing developer Double Fine in an attempt to stop the game from releasing this October, claiming that:
"Activision paid Double Fine about $15 million to develop 'Brutal Legend,' but the studio missed a key deadline last year and it would need another nine months and $7 million to complete the game." Furthermore, "Activision contends it never relinquished its rights to the game and that Double Fine improperly transferred 'Brutal Legend' to EA."
I call BS and say screw you Activision. I can't imagine a single gamer out there believes this theory. Face it Activision - you let a gem slip from your grasp because of your own stupidity, and now that the game is getting so much attention and love at this year's E3, you're all pissy and mad because you screwed up.
You know what - tough! Accept you screwed up and move on, because all you're doing now is pissing off fans and making them vow to never buy another Activision game ever.
'Brutal Legend' Twitter Interview Plus Win A Guitar
Wed, 05/27/2009 - 10:48 — Jason Van Horn
Brutal Legend will be making an appearance at E3 next week, and though you might not be able to go (I feel your pain this year) you can still be involved as Tim Schafer will be holding an interview for the game over Twitter, where he will answer questions you submit. Also, a new contest has just been started, where one lucky person will win an actual guitar, which is designed after the GameStop pre-buy guitar that will come with Brutal Legends.
To learn more about the Twitter interview or sign-up for the guitar contest, be sure to check out this site right here.
Activision Greedy For 'Brutal Legend' Money
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 09:21 — Jason Van Horn
You probably know of Brutal Legend by now - the game about the rock n' roll roadie voiced by Jack Black fighting demons in a Heavy Metal inspired fantasy world created by Tim Schafer. You probably also know that Activision was going to originally publish the game, but then dropped it and EA stepped up to publish instead. Well Activision didn't want to make any money by publishing the game, but they're all for extorting, as they want EA to pay money for the rights they claim they still have in regards to publishing. I love the quote from an EA representative about the claim:
"We doubt that Activision would try to sue. That would be like a husband abandoning his family and then suing after his wife meets a better looking guy."
Wow! Who knew EA would become the good guys for once?
Will Electronic Arts Publish 'Brutal Legend'
Thu, 08/14/2008 - 08:44 — Jason Van Horn
We posted not too long ago about how Brutal Legend's status was up in the air after a merger saw the game as one of the ones on the cutting room floor. Tim Schafer, however, promised that the game was still okay. Though a new publisher has yet to be officially announced, the newest rumor has Electronic Arts publishing the game. Whether EA publishes the game or not, I just hope someone picks it up.
'Brutal Legend' Is Fine
Wed, 07/30/2008 - 08:58 — Jason Van Horn
With the way people treated Psychonauts - Schafer's last game - I was pretty sure that yesterday was indeed the end of Brutal Legend. Schafer, however, has something to say about the the news from yesterday.
"Brutal Legend is fine."
Pffew! It's good to hear that the game is still alive and kicking.
Activision Cancelling 'Brutal Legend,' 'Ghostbusters,' and More?
Tue, 07/29/2008 - 07:21 — Jason Van Horn
Quick! I need a paper bag, because I think I'm going to hyperventilate here! I've had games I'm interested in dropped before, but this is the first time when three I was really interested in look to be getting the axe. Brutal Legend? Ghostbusters? Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena? Oh sure, drop those, but keep Crash Bandicoot and Spyro...like anyone cares about those franchises anymore.
