'Chuck' (3.18/3.19) "Chuck Versus The Subway/The Ring Part 2" – Review
Mon, 05/31/2010 - 08:16 — Jason Van Horn
It's the two-hour season finale of Chuck, but at least we know that upfront this year and don't have to wait around and wonder the fate of the show. While I wouldn't say this was my favorite finale of the year (or even of Chuck to be honest), it was a pretty good finale, but one that has me wondering how the show will feel next season when it returns for its fourth season.

'Chuck' (3.17) "Chuck Versus The Living Dead" – Review
Thu, 05/20/2010 - 08:56 — Jason Van Horn
I've seen a lot of people raving about this latest episode of Chuck, but personally speaking, I didn't really enjoy it all that much. It was great to see Scott Bakula back as Papa Bartowski, but there just wasn't a lot of humor, storylines kind of came out of nowhere, and possible resolves came all too quickly. There were some nice turns and surprises, but they didn't save this from being just an average and at times boring endeavor.
'Chuck' and 'V' Renewed - 'Flash Forward' Finally Dead
Fri, 05/14/2010 - 09:16 — Jason Van Horn
It was reported earlier this week, so it's not surprising to see the official word finally come from NBC regarding the fact that Chuck has been renewed. Hip hip hoo-frakking-ray!
In regards to more surprising news, ABC has officially ordered a second season of V, which reportedly being 13-episodes right now. The show hasn't been terrible in terms of ratings or content, but it hasn't been exactly stellar either.
As for news that was just a matter of time coming, ABC also officially announced that Flash Forward has been cancelled. It's about time!

Though not as consistently laugh-out-loud funny as the past episodes have been since the show came back after its short break after the initial run of episodes were finished, the greater implications and heartfelt moments really made up for the fact that this was a pretty serious episode overall. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for some of this episode's plot points to play out.
'Chuck' Likely To Be Renewed
Tue, 05/11/2010 - 09:10 — Jason Van Horn
It's not official, but the word on the street is that Chuck will be renewed for a fourth season. Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is reporting that several sources are saying that Chuck will be renewed, while a recent interview with NBC Entertainment president Angela Bromstad slipped that - when discussing if a new show called The Event would air on Mondays - "We have another genre piece in contention, and we have 'Chuck.' We're going to hash out the schedule over the next week."
Sounds good. Nothing official yet, but she also said in the same interview, "It's our highest-performing Monday night show [in adults 18-49]. We look at it as a very strong player, and it's a show that matches up with our new shows. It's too early for me to say for certain, as it's a conversation we're going to have next week."
'Chuck' (3.15) "Chuck Versus The Role Models" – Review

Last week's episode of Chuck was golden, and while this week's was pretty funny and featured the great Fred Willard and Swoosie Kurtz (from Pushing Daisies), I just couldn't get into the episode all that much this week, and found myself less than thrilled and somewhat bored at times.
Future of 'Chuck' Should Be Decided Soon
Tue, 05/04/2010 - 07:38 — Jason Van Horn
Unlike last year, where fans had to protest and wait forever to see if Chuck would be coming back, fans shouldn't have to wait as long this year to find out if the show will be coming back, "Chuck creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak have asked the network to make a decision sooner this time, on the heels of pitching NBC their plans for Season 4. Schwartz and Fedak have told NBC that knowing their decision in the near future will help them make sure they can keep their writing staff in place."
Last week's episode actually saw a ratings increase, and if last night's episode performed well, chances are strong for Chuck.
'Chuck' (3.14) "Chuck Versus The Honeymooners" – Review

Some people complained that the third season of Chuck has been too melodramatic in the "will they or won't they" mechanic of Chuck and Sarah getting together. Some felt the show lost that innocent charm and light-hearted fun that dominated the bulk of the first two seasons. If you were one of those people, all you needed to do was watch this latest week's episode to be reminded that the show can still churn out those type of stories, and do so in hilarious fashion.
'Chuck' (3.13) "Chuck Versus The Other Guy" – Review

I'd like to take this moment to direct you to the final paragraph of my Chuck review last week. Go ahead, I'll wait. Told ya! Despite the big moment being predictable, by no means did that takeaway from the thrills and suspense and magical moments of this episode. Chuck Versus The Other Guy was intended to be the season/series finale (depending on the situation) and it would've been an amazing closer/swan song had that still been the case. Thankfully, we've got six more episodes to close this amazing season out – let's just hope the writers don't unravel what they managed to do here.

There came a point in this episode when I said "oh crap" and chills were creeping up my arms. Sure, I think I was running a slight fever at the time, but there was also a lot happening within that one moment of Chuck at the time too. It was an okay episode with a lot of implications and momentum towards next week's episode, which would've been the season/series finale.
'Chuck' (3.11) "Chuck Versus The Final Exam" – Review
Wed, 03/24/2010 - 09:34 — Jason Van Horn
For as great as this season of Chuck has been, one thing I must admit is that the show telegraphs too many important plot point moments. In this episode, Chuck is finally confronted with his final spy exam, and it's all too easy to see each plot point before it arrives and how ultimately it will affect the show as it moves forward. Still a good episode, but I just wish they would've gone with something slightly less predictable.
'Chuck' (3.10) "Chuck Versus The Tic Tac" – Review

This week's episode of Chuck was magnificent. It had comedy (though a little less than usual) and action, but what really made this episode standout was the huge, game changing moments that seemed to be coming left and right, and several emotion scenes that left me nearly heartbroken. In what's already been an especially good season, this week's episode was the best so far of the year.

When a television show's star decides they want to try their hand at directing, it usually means that said actor is going to be missing for the duration of the episode, so that they can focus on directing duties instead. Such was not the case with this week's episode of Chuck, as Zachary Levi was not only directing this week, but was still front and center in this very funny and insightful episode.
'Chuck' (3.8) "Chuck Versus The Fake Name" – Review
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 10:30 — Jason Van Horn
It's a heartache of an episode this week, as Chuck finds himself conflicted with who he really cares for, while he's forced to go undercover as an assassin alias in order to get close to The Ring. It was a very memorable episode for many reasons: comedy, twists, and the ever-evolving character that is Chuck.

Chuck was just an okay episode this week. The biggest problem I had with the episode is the inclusion of Shaw. Perhaps I'm too fond of my boy Chuck, because while watching the episode I was constantly cheering as he grew closer to Hannah, and yet at the same time, I was yelling names at Shaw as he put the moves on Sarah. Why is it okay for Chuck to find love, but not for Sarah?
