First 'Kick Ass' Film Images
Fri, 11/14/2008 - 11:48 — Jason Van Horn
Kick Ass - the comic from Mark Millar about a kid who decides to become a superhero despite the fact he has no powers - is being turned into a film by director Matthew Vaughn. The site Newsrama was visiting one of the sites where the film was being shot, and now have up on their site two images from their visit. Both shots feature Kick Ass in his traditional comic book costume, which should please fans as the outfit is very faithful to the source material. I can't wait for Kick Ass to hit theaters...and for the next issue to come out whenever that is.

Marvel Working On 'Thor' Animated Series
Fri, 11/14/2008 - 11:11 — Jason Van Horn
He's gearing up for his own movie, will appear in the upcoming Hulk Vs animated movie, and news from Marvel today has Thor ready for his own 26-episode animated series, set to release after or around the same time as the planned 2010 release date of the film. There isn't much known about the series beyond that, as no plotline or network to air the series has been mentioned yet.
Djimon Hounsou To Voice 'Black Panther' Animated Series
Wed, 11/12/2008 - 10:30 — Jason Van Horn
Djimon Hounsou is a very talented actor, so I'm impressed that BET was able to snag him to voice the lead - the King of Wakanda himself T'Challa (aka Black Panther). Since the animated show will be airing on BET, it should have a more adult sensibility, which I'm thinking will be along the lines of the classic Batman: The Animated Series. If the show does well, perhaps we'll even see Hounsou playing Black Panther in a live-action film, which he was rumored to be in the running for before.
"It's a blessing for African Americans and minorities to have a super hero they can identify with," says Hounsou. "While the Black Panther is a powerful force for good, he is also a respected world leader who takes pride in his African heritage. He embodies the past and future of his culture, demonstrating the endless possibilities of an Africa that is truly free."
Has The 'Magneto' Plot Been Revealed?
Wed, 11/12/2008 - 10:22 — Jason Van Horn
When X3 came out there was talk of several spin-off films. The first to be realized is going to be Wolverine, but Magneto seems to be heading towards actuality. The latest news today is that the plot for the proposed Magneto film has been released, and it features a story that shouldn't be uncommon for fans of the comic. The plot details Magneto's life in a concentration camp and this him meeting Professor X and striking up a friendship.
Will McG Direct 'Wonder Woman' Film?
Wed, 11/12/2008 - 10:08 — Jason Van Horn
McG - the creator of such series as The OC and Chuck - will be rounding out his director credits by potentially helming a Wonder Woman film, as his name has been floated around with the project as it makes its rounds. McG's directing credits include We Are Marshall and the upcoming Terminator Salvation.
'The Dark Knight' Blamed For Female Suicides
Wed, 11/12/2008 - 09:46 — Jason Van Horn
The world today is a strange place to live, as it's all too common to run across absolutely stupid news stories like this. The saddest fact, however, is that people actually "believe" the validity of these claims. The latest stupid news features the mayor of the Turkish city of Batman (yes, the place is called Batman) getting ready to file charges against Christopher Nolan and Warner Brothers for a string of unresolved murders and female suicides, which he is crediting to the distress caused on them by the viewing of The Dark Knight.
Beyonce Wants To Play 'Wonder Woman'
Tue, 11/11/2008 - 09:31 — Jason Van Horn
I gave up on caring about Wonder Woman when Joss Whedon started to distance himself from the project and a mutual split happened. I like the character, but not enough to watch if Whedon isn't involved. The latest Wonder Woman news has singer Beyonce wanting to play the Amazonian princess. I wouldn't mind seeing Beyonce fill the outfit out, but as far as wanting to see her act in the role...pass.
Joe Johnston Set To Direct 'Captain America'
Mon, 11/10/2008 - 09:53 — Jason Van Horn
Joe Johnston - who has directed such films as the under appreciated The Rocketeer, Honey I Shrunk The Kids, Hidalgo and others - is now set to helm the Captain America film, which is instrumentally important in order to officially get The Avengers film out the gate. Unless something changes, Johnston's Captain America will arrive in theaters on May 6, 2011.
CW Stops Plans For 'The Graysons'
Fri, 11/07/2008 - 10:02 — Jason Van Horn
The CW announced some months ago plans to do for the DC character of Robin what they did for Superman in Smallville. The show called The Graysons was set to explore the early life and adventures of Robin. Nobody thought the idea sounded too hot to begin with, but it's taken until now for The CW to come to their senses, and have only now pulled the plug on the planned series.
'Wanted' Script Writer Returning For Sequel
Thu, 11/06/2008 - 09:33 — Jason Van Horn
Wanted was a great comic series, which was adapted into a pretty good film (at least it must have done well enough to warrant a sequel). Mark Millar isn't going to write anything new for a sequel to follow, but the original film's script scribe will be returning to continue the story he first adapted. The only thing really known about the sequel is the fact that Chris Morgan says the film will "be opened up to be more global".
EW Reports On Terrence Howard's Departure From 'Iron Man 2'
Tue, 11/04/2008 - 10:30 — Jason Van Horn
It came as a surprise to many when Terrence Howard was replaced by Don Cheadle for the upcoming Iron Man 2. What could've possibly happened to cause the firing and subsequent replacement? Based on Entertainment Weekly's findings, it seems that Howard was difficult to work with on the set, reportedly was paid more than even star Downey, and that Favreau was ultimately disappointed in his performance and chopped up many of the scenes he was involved in. On second thought, maybe we wouldn't have been surprised if we'd known this earlier.
Favreau On 'Avengers' And Tie-In Films
Thu, 10/30/2008 - 08:08 — Jason Van Horn
Jon Favreau just signed on to not only direct an Iron Man sequel, but is also going to be an executive producer on the Avengers film. In the interview, Favreau discusses the Avengers film, and how he thinks it will work with the film being composed of different heroes from different individual films.
"But there are a lot of tonal challenges that are going to take place, more so in the other films I think. THOR has a tremendously… that’s going to be the most difficult one to integrate into this reality. And if it can be properly done then you get a great version of AVENGERS. If not, AVENGERS is going to seem like ROGER RABBIT with different cartoon characters from different worlds, you have Betty Boop next to Daffy Duck next to Donald Duck you know. And I don’t know that’s the experience it should feel like, it should feel like a unified Marvel Universe. And I know that the Marvel guys are very, very vigilant about that."
Sam Mendes Bringing 'Preacher' To Film
Thu, 10/30/2008 - 08:01 — Jason Van Horn
Preacher being adapted for live-action status has been a failed promise for a long time now, as proposals for a television series have long since stalled. Finally, however, Preacher fans will be getting their adaptation, as Sam Mendes will be tackling the director duties for a Preacher film.
'Iron Man 2' And 'Avengers' Take Shape
Wed, 10/29/2008 - 08:49 — Jason Van Horn
Iron Man has always been an important part of the Avengers team, so it's only natural he would appear in the film. As part of a recent deal, Robert Downey Jr. has not only agreed to be in Iron Man 2, but he will appear in the Avengers film as well. Meanwhile, Jon Favreau - the director of Iron Man - will return to helm the sequel as well as being a producer on the Avengers film. In other Iron Man/Avengers news, Don Cheadle has officially been hired, apparently signing a deal that could have him appearing on both films too.
Hulk Battling The Leader In Next Sequel?
Tue, 10/28/2008 - 09:02 — Jason Van Horn
It's still up in the air if a sequel to The Incredible Hulk will actually happen, but news seems to suggest that Edward Norton will return, and that the leading candidate for sequel villain is going towards The Leader. Of course the film still might not ever happen, or at least potentially for a long time, as it seems that they're gearing Hulk up for the Avengers movie, which should be happening first.
